Brown-Buttered Banana Bread

If you went to public school in NYC you’d remember those small packaged banana breads they’d hand out for breakfast… I LOVED THEM. I’d always grab one… or two… or three lol

So I was extra shocked when it hit me, why the heck did I never try a banana bread recipe??? Making it is incredibly easy and helps put aging bananas to good use!

This recipe is from TastingTable.com but as you may have already suspected, I made some adjustments to my version 😉

What makes this recipe extraaa delicious is the brow butter - it really just hits different and it’s become my newest obsession.

To start, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 11 TBSP of Unsalted Butter

  • 3 Large Ripe Bananas

    • Reserve one Banana for topping

  • 3 Large Eggs

  • 2 Cups of All-Purpose Flour

  • 1 1/2 Cup of Brown Sugar

    • Set aside 2 TSP for topping

  • 2 TSP of Baking Powder

  • 2 TSP of Ground Cinnamon

  • 1 1/2 TSP of Kosher Salt

  • 1 TSP of Ground Nutmeg

STEP BY STEP:

  • Preheat oven 350 degrees

  • In a small saucepan, melt the butter on low to medium heat until it turns dark brown

    • TIP: Constantly stir the butter scraping down the sides to avoid the butter from burning

    • TIP: Butter is browned once it smells sweet and roasted (approx. 5-7 minutes cooking)

  • Set aside 3 TBSP of brown butter for basting

  • In a medium bowl, mix together 2 mashed bananas and eggs until fully blended

  • In a separate bowl, mix together your dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg

  • Then, add in Brown Sugar

  • Slowly mix your dry (flour bowl) and wet (banana/egg bowl) together

  • Once fully incorporated, add in the brown butter - this is where all your flavors and smells come together!

  • Grease a 9x5” pan with butter and pour the mixture into

    • TIP: For added flavor, you can sprinkle the bottom of the tray with brown sugar #lifechanging

  • Slice your 3rd banana in half (vertically) and place them on top of the mixture

  • Sprinkle the 2 TSP of brown sugar as a topping

  • Bake at 350 degrees for 55-60 degrees

    • TIP: Use the toothpick method to test whether the bread has fully cooked through

  • Once cooked, remove the banana bread from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes

  • Then bask the bread with the remaining brown butter and VIOLA! You’ve got a Brown-Buttered Banana Bread ✨
