guava & cream cheese pastries

Guava & Cream Cheese empanadas are one of my favorite breakfast pastries. Paired with a warm cup of chamomile tea and drizzled with honey, this is the perfect way to start my morning.

This recipe is incredibly easy and fun to do with kids. I tend to bake with my 14 year old sister and we have the most fun with cheeky recipes like this one!

To start, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • Guava Paste

  • Cream Cheese

  • Pie Crust

  • Egg Wash

  • Granulated Sugar

Additional Tools you’ll need:

  • Heart-Shaped Cookie Cutters

  • Rolling Pin

  • Decorating Brush

  • Parchment Paper

For added fun:

STEP BY STEP:

  • Roll out pie crust - the thinner, the better!

  • Cut the pie crust into heart shaped pieces.

  • Brush egg wash over the pieces. This gives an extra crunch and golden glaze.

  • Fill the pie crust with pieces of guava and cream cheese. Be careful with over-stuffing. Pie crust expands when heated = exploded pastry!

  • Top the pastry with a matching piece.

  • Seal the pastry with a fork.

  • Brush another layer of egg wash and poke some holes on top to allow for breathing.

  • Bake at 365 for 12-18 minutes.

OPTIONAL

Once you remove the pastries from the oven, let them completely cool off . Then, with a decorative brush, powder the pastries for an extra WOW factor using Fancy Sprinkles Prism or Luster Powder.

I recently discovered Fancy Sprinkles and my life has completely changed (srsly lol). Their Prism and Luster Powder are perfect for elevating your baking!
